Sustainability

Our shelters are built to live outside for decades, not seasons. By choosing naturally long-lasting cotton-canvas, PFC-free finishes, repair-first service and carbon-offset logistics, every tent we ship keeps more single-use synthetics out of landfills and more carbon out of the sky. The roadmap below details exactly how we do it today—and where we’re headed next.

1. Materials That Respect the Wild

1.1 Cotton-Canvas & Poly-Cotton Blends

  • Biodegradable fiber. Cotton is plant-based and decomposes naturally at end-of-life, unlike nylon or PVC-coated poly which persist for centuries.

  • Thermal & moisture performance. Canvas insulates in cold, breathes in heat and pairs safely with tent stoves—qualities synthetics struggle to match.

  • Longevity. Well-maintained premium canvas lasts 15–30 years, drastically lowering lifetime footprint per night slept.

1.2 Finishes & Dyes

  • All tents are treated with PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) such as Nikwax Cotton Proof, avoiding “forever chemicals.”

  • Fabric batches are screened to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 for harmful-substance safety.

2. Responsible Manufacturing

Impact area Current practice 2026 target
Energy 42 % of factory power from on-site solar 60 % renewables
Water Closed-loop dye vats recirculate 70 % of process water 85 % recirc.
Audits Annual BSCI & OEKO-TEX audits Publish full scorecard online

(Our cut-and-sew partner in Jiangsu runs rooftop photovoltaics and low-emission biomass boilers.)

3. Built-in Longevity & Repair

  1. Lifetime patch kits ship free with every tent.

  2. Repair-first program—zipper swaps, pole sleeves, stove-jack replacements—modeled after Patagonia’s loyalty-boosting Worn Wear service, which drives measurable repeat revenue.

  3. In 2024 we fixed 312 customer tents, diverting ~2.8 t of canvas from landfill.

4. Circularity & Take-Back

  • Second-Life buy-back. We repurchase used Trend Tents above 50 % resale grade, refurbish, then list as “Re-Camp Certified.” This mirrors Decathlon’s tent refund loop that tackles festival waste.

  • End-of-life up-cycling. Unrepairable canvas is donated to makers who turn it into ground cloths, festival flags and tote bags.

5. Packaging & Shipping

  • FSC-certified recycled cardboard—proven to deliver both environmental and marketing benefits.

  • Poly-bags swapped for plant-based mailer sleeves in 2023.

  • 100 % carbon-neutral shipping via certified offsets (model follows Etsy & Patagonia’s programs).

6. Giving Back

  • Proud 1 % for the Planet member—1 % of gross revenue funds trail-restoration and wildfire-recovery NGOs.

  • 2024 grants: $22 k to Leave No Trace; $11 k to CA Wildfire Restoration Fund.

7. 2025–2027 Sustainability Goals
