Our Sustainability Manifesto
The most sustainable
tent is one that lasts.
The outdoor industry has a responsibility to protect the environments it profits from. At Trend Tents, sustainability isn't a marketing layer — it's a manufacturing decision baked into every product we make.
A typical nylon tent lasts 3–5 years before seams fail, coatings peel, and zips give out. Most end up in landfill, where synthetic fabrics persist for centuries. Our cotton-canvas and poly-cotton shelters are engineered to last 15–30 years with basic care — meaning every Trend Tents customer displaces multiple synthetic replacements over their camping lifetime.
That's the math behind our sustainability commitment. But we don't stop there. From the chemistry of our waterproofing to the fuel that powers our factory, we're systematically reducing the environmental cost of every tent we ship. This page documents exactly where we are and where we're going — with real numbers, not marketing language.

Chapter 01 · Materials
Materials that
respect the wild.
Every fabric, finish, and dye we use is chosen with one question in mind: what happens to this when the tent reaches the end of its very long life? Here's our answer.
1.1 — Canvas & Fabric
Cotton-canvas.
Biodegradable by nature.
Cotton is plant-based, compostable, and returns to the soil at true end-of-life — unlike nylon, polyurethane-coated poly, or PVC fabrics that persist in landfill for 200–500 years. Our 200–280 GSM cotton and poly-cotton blends are 4–6× the fabric weight of budget synthetic tents, which is why they last 15–30 years under proper care rather than the 3–5 years typical of nylon shelters.
The thermal and moisture properties of canvas also reduce the need for additional sleeping equipment — canvas insulates in cold, breathes in heat, and pairs safely with certified tent stoves for genuine four-season use without synthetic alternatives.
-
→
Biodegradable Fiber
Plant-based cotton decomposes naturally at end-of-life. No microplastic shedding. No persistent synthetic residue in soil or waterways.
-
→
15–30 Year Lifespan
A well-maintained Trend Tents canvas outlasts 5–10 synthetic tent replacements. Dramatically lower lifetime footprint per night slept outdoors.
-
→
No Microplastic Shedding
Synthetic fabrics shed microplastics with every wash and wear cycle. Natural cotton canvas does not — a meaningful reduction in plastic pollution at campsites and watersheds.
-
→
Four-Season Thermal Performance
Canvas naturally regulates temperature — warmer at night, cooler at noon — reducing energy demand from supplementary heating and cooling equipment.
1.2 — Finishes & Dyes
PFC-free.
Zero forever chemicals.
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) — commonly called "forever chemicals" — were the industry standard for DWR waterproofing for decades. They don't break down in the environment, accumulate in groundwater, and have been detected in Arctic ice, human blood, and the fish at your campsite's lake. We stopped using them.
All Trend Tents products are treated with C0-PFC DWR chemistry — the same fluorocarbon-free technology used by leading responsible outdoor brands. Waterproofing performance is maintained across all use conditions without introducing PFAS into the ecosystems your tent is pitched in.
-
→
C0-PFC DWR Chemistry
Zero fluorochemicals in waterproofing treatments. Runoff from our tents in rain stays clean — no PFAS entering the soil or groundwater around your campsite.
-
→
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified
All primary canvas batches are independently tested and certified under OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — verifying the absence of harmful substances at every stage of production.
-
→
Low-Impact Dyes
All colourways are produced with low-impact reactive dyes that use less water, generate less effluent, and achieve higher fiber fixation rates than conventional textile dyeing processes.
-
→
No PVC, No Silnylon
We don't manufacture PVC-coated products or silnylon shelters. Both materials are non-biodegradable, chlorine-releasing in incineration, and environmentally persistent.
Canvas vs. Synthetic — Sustainability Comparison
| Factor | Cotton-Canvas (Trend Tents) | Standard Nylon / Polyester | PVC Coated |
|---|---|---|---|
| End-of-Life | Biodegradable | Persists 200–500 yrs | Landfill / toxic incin. |
| Microplastics | None | Sheds with every wash | Sheds with every wash |
| Expected Lifespan | 15–30 years | 3–5 years | 5–8 years |
| Waterproofing Chemistry | C0-PFC (PFAS-free) | Often PFAS-treated | PVC chlorine compounds |
| Textile Certification | OEKO-TEX Standard 100 | Varies / often none | Rarely certified |
| Thermal Self-Regulation | Natural — no coating needed | Traps heat / condensation | Greenhouse effect |
Chapter 02 · Manufacturing
Responsible
production.
Our cut-and-sew facility in Jiangsu runs rooftop photovoltaics, low-emission biomass boilers, and closed-loop dye vats. Every year we publish the numbers — and every year we aim to improve them.
Energy
Factory Renewable Power
2026 Target: 60% renewables
42% of factory electricity now comes from on-site rooftop solar photovoltaics. The remainder is sourced from the regional grid, transitioning toward a renewable energy purchasing agreement by Q4 2026.
Water
Process Water Recirculation
2026 Target: 85% recirculation
Closed-loop dye vats recirculate 70% of all process water, dramatically reducing freshwater demand compared to open-loop dyeing systems. Effluent is treated before discharge against local water quality standards.
Auditing
Annual Third-Party Audits
2026 Target: Publish full scorecard online
Annual BSCI social compliance audits and OEKO-TEX facility audits are conducted by independent third parties. We are committed to publishing full audit scorecards online by end of 2026 for full supply chain transparency.

Chapter 03 · Longevity & Repair
Built to be
repaired, not replaced.
The most impactful thing an outdoor brand can do is make products that last. Our repair-first programme is modelled after Patagonia's Worn Wear service — shown to drive customer loyalty, reduce returns, and measurably reduce waste at scale.
3.1 — Repair Programme
Repair portal.
Free in Year 1.
Every Trend Tents purchase comes with access to our repair programme. Free zipper, pole sleeve, stove-jack, and canvas patch kits ship to any customer in Year 1 — no questions asked, no return required. After Year 1, component parts are available at cost with full repair guidance.
In 2024, our team completed 312 customer tent repairs, diverting approximately 2.8 tonnes of cotton-canvas from landfill. That's equivalent to keeping 62 tents in use for another 5+ years each — tents that would otherwise have been replaced with new units.
-
1.
Lifetime Patch Kits
Canvas patch kits ship free with every tent. Covers small tears, seam separation, and rain-flap wear — the most common longevity issues in canvas shelters.
-
2.
Free Year-1 Zipper Swap
Zipper failure is the #1 reason canvas tents are discarded prematurely. We ship replacement zipper assemblies free in Year 1, along with instructional video guides for DIY installation.
-
3.
Pole & Frame Replacement
Replacement pole sections, hub components, and guy-line assemblies are available as individual components — so a snapped pole doesn't mean replacing an entire tent.
-
4.
Stove-Jack Replacement
Our stove-jack upgrade and replacement kits allow heat-damaged or worn stove penetration points to be replaced without requiring a full canvas panel swap.
-
5.
Re-Camp Certified Buy-Back
We repurchase used Trend Tents graded above 50% resale condition, refurbish them in-house, and list them as "Re-Camp Certified" — extending product life by another 5–15 years.
3.2 — Circularity & End-of-Life
When a tent can't be repaired,
it becomes something else.
Unrepairable canvas is donated to a network of makers and community workshops who repurpose it into ground cloths, festival flags, tote bags, and upholstery. We track the volume of canvas redirected this way annually.
For accessories and hardware components, we operate a component return scheme — poles, tent pegs, hub assemblies, and buckle straps can be returned to us for recycling into new hardware rather than entering general waste streams.
